It is my great pleasure to announce that the next installment in the Legacy Series will be titled The Heir to the Throne. The Heir to the Throne follows the journey of Isaac Aelder as he tries to discover who he is and where he belongs. The Heir to the Throne will be available later this year.

As you were reading The Last of their Kind, you may have noticed the not-so-common names. In case you were wondering, yes, there is a reason for that. Names have a very powerful meaning. They can evoke strength and courage or cowardice and weakness. Our name is a part of who we are, whether we like it or not.
When creating these characters, I figured it might be cool to give some of the more important characters names that were both super cool and revealed something about their personality or characteristics. I put a list of these names and why I chose them below. Enjoy! Jaiyana: Strength -- I think this one is fairly obvious. Jaiyana is a strong heroine and her name needs to reflect that about her. It also reflects everything she strives to be. Throughout the story, Jaiyana questions why she survived and not another Rimitar. She questions her strength. Her name reveals that the strength she craves is with her all along. All she had to do was look inside to find it. Jahari: Strong and powerful -- Jahari is barely in the book, but based on what we know from Jaiyana, we know that her father was a powerful man. Another interesting bit about Jahari's name: you'll notice that Jahari and Jaiyana's names are fairly alike. This was done to signify her special bond with her father, one that is not shared by Travvis and Nico, whose names are completely different. Abaddon: the destroyer -- This name fits the character exactly. Abaddon destroyed Rimita and numerous lives, including Jaiyana's. What name is better for a man whose sole purpose in life is to kill the Rimitars? Matthew: Gift of God -- This one is not quite as obvious. To be quite honest, I picked this name without even looking at the meaning. But when I did look at the meaning, I realized the name was actually quite appropriate for the character. Matt is really a gift to Jaiyana--a godsend. Crevan: fox -- Red hair, yellow eyes, and a fox-like appearance? Crevan's name speaks for itself. Toryn: chief -- Toryn's position got him this name. As chief of Bra'Hall, the name fits the character. Ryan: kingly -- Ryan is the king. Again, the position got him the name. Jael: mountain goat -- This one may seem a bit odd, but remember that Jael is a satyr. Half man, half goat. And our last one... Ladon: dragon of Hera -- This one takes some breaking down. Ladon is obviously a dragon, which warrants the name, but what about the Hera part? Hera was the Greek goddess of family, which may seem a bit out of place for our character. But think about it this way: Ladon was the leader of the Northern Mountain Dragons, since he was the eldest. He took a patriarchal role in the family. This may seem a bit far-fetched but hey, it works. Or you could consider Hera's background. She was married to Zeus, the king of the gods, making her the queen. You can see a bit of nobility in Ladon, both in the way he talks and the way he carries himself. Just another connection from character to name. -J.T. http://www.meaning-of-names.com/ |
